TLA News - 2023 UK Intercounties Cross Country Championships

A massive congratulations to Luke who finished 1st in the 2023 UK Intercounties Cross Country Championships! Luke has written about the event on the day.

‘On Saturday, I competed in the 2023 UK Intercounties cross country championship where I was running for Berkshire and competing against the best of the UK including Scotland and Wales. 

The race took place in Loughborough and was around 8.5km long which I completed in 28:25mins. The race consisted of two laps, the first of which I took very easy and sat in the middle of the front pack biding my time. On the second, I took to the front and pushed the pace on, shaking up the pack and dropping everyone except 2 other athletes entering the final couple kms. After a surge from one of my competitors, we dropped the other athlete so there was only 2 of us entering the final km. Again, I bided my time, and as we turned to take the final hill, I kicked and attacked going up the hill. I created a gap and managed to pull away for the win, winning by 3 seconds. 

This race was part of the British Cross Challenge series and was the final of the series so double points were on offer. The win meant I also won the overall cross challenge series and got a couple of nice trophies along with some cash as a reward’.
