Year 4 have had another really busy half term learning all about the fabric of nature and delving into the big "How can nature inspire us?". We looked at William Morris in Art and we tried to recreate lots of patterns and textures that we found in photographs of exotic animals using oil pastels, crayons, collage and mixed media.

In Science we learnt about how to classify living things (animals and plants) and how to create branching databases based on their physical appearance and categories such as diet, habitat and whether they are a mammal for example. This built on their knowledge of branching databases from Computing in Year 3.

In Geography the children learnt about North America which built on their knowledge from the Mayans last term. During this topic they looked at many different physical and human features of North America such as mountains, volcanoes, lakes, rivers and cities and were able to compare and contrast Langley with New York City to discuss its similarities and differences (of which there are clearly many!).

In Reading and Writing the children have been delving into their first experience of Shakespeare where they have been learning all about A Midsummer Night's Dream so that they could put on their fantastic play for our High Stakes Project! We held auditions and ensured that every child who said they wanted a speaking part could have their chance to shine and we are sure you will agree that they have done a truly amazing job (even if they are not as loud on stage as they are in the playground or around the house!).

A wonderful Shakespearean actor came to visit our school to do an acting workshop with the children to help them with expressions, memorising lines, encapsulating the humour within the story and building their excitement and this was something they really enjoyed as they remembered him from their Shang Dynasty drama workshop in Year 3.
