TLA Climate Change Challenge
Back
All Year 10 students took part in the Climate Change Challenge 2025 organised by Learning to Work and led by Equinix, Orange Business and Plus X Innovation. This interschool competition was designed to inspire students to explore how technology can combat climate change with seven local schools taking part. The Challenge links to the GCSE curriculum, the working world, climate change, AI and sustainability.
The morning involved students learning about climate change and business innovation. In the afternoon session students worked in teams to design a technological innovation that can help educate or solve an issue associated with climate change.
All groups ‘pitched’ their ideas to the judges and our winners ‘ at re injas’ went on to compete with the winning teams from other schools on 15 May hosted by Plus X Innovatio.
CEO’s from Orange, Plus X and Equinix judged ideas for tech solutions to tackle deforestation, desertification, plastic pollution in the oceans and soil nutrient restoration that were presented by the seven finalists.
The ‘Nature Ninjas’ spent some time with their mentors, Amelia and Shaan from Orange Business to polish their presentation.
They then had four minutes to present their idea for an App to help educate young people on how plastic pollution is endangering our oceans and encourage them to recycle with the strapline Plastic Pollution? We’ve got the solution! People who sign up to the app can ‘raise a turtle by ‘feeding’ it with each recycled item they record and can upgrade to a shark by paying for a premium membership. Games and other incentives are included in the app. All proceeds would go to cleaning the ocean.
Chahat, Emily, Delvin, Mariyah, Artinis and Rayan gave a fantastic presentation and should be very proud of themselves. We are! Chahat writes about her experience: “My experience in taking part in the Climate Change Challenge was incredible. Not only was it fun, but it was also eye opening and inspiring. It gave me a chance to explore and tackle real-world challenges that not many people have the opportunity to do. It made me and my team think innovatively about how we can creatively tackle climate change. The business volunteers were an immense help throughout the challenge and me and my team created a professional bond with our mentors. Overall, working on this project also boosted my confidence and work skills that are essential for my future. I’m proud to have been part of something that encourages young people to take action. Plastic Pollution? We’ve got the Solution!”
